Octoberfest

Thanks everyone for helping to make the past couple of weeks successful.
As George Bush would say “It’s hard work”

Faisal Salahuddin and Abou Sylla were guest artists with NDD for a couple of weeks.
Faisal just passed the bar in Colorado and was taking a break before starting work as a public defender.
Abou is traveling the southeast teaching and playing for various groups.

Looking back – some highlights

Classes @ 701
Kids & adult classes -good turnout

Jenny Maxwell writes about it on her blog:
SKIRT

AWENDAW Rocktoberfest!
Great show.

Eddie White with Awendaw Green says:
"So many highlights, but the next door drummers with Abou were a favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

St Lawrence Place
Faz, Abou and unexpected African guests taught and performed for about 30 kids at this transitional housing unit. These are kids that live on the brink of homelessness. The children were between 4 - 12 years old and were all very eager and engaged.

.
One very quiet kid, probably 12-14yrs old, picked up the rhythm quickly and Faz showed him attention. Although I don't think he ever actually smiled - he looked stunned that Faisal was showing him attention and praising him. Faz encouraged him to talk to his band teacher at school.
Got this message the next day:
"X was so impressed with Monday night's music, he and his mom went to school Tuesday and asked to switch his schedule. He went to Band class today."

Brockman
Abou and Faisal teach 300 kids in a day
THANKFULLY they were all pretty well behaved!
(and the kids were too)

“Thank you so much for calling Brockman about Faisal and Abou. I have received wonderful feedback from the children and staff...rave reviews from the principal! "

Libby Cross, Music teacher
Brockman Elementary School

701 Open House
Needless to say we totally rocked the house!

Danielle Howles quote:

" I thought Poppa String and NDD. sounded so amazing. Man
when NDD took the stage, the whole event changed for the better. You
guys really got the crowd. It was the musical highlight of the evening
and the best thing in there that night.

PS< what about playing at the Oyster Roast down here in feb? that
would rock!! D."

Thanks again everyone!
